Daisy

dir. Chris Boeckmann, 2006. Shot entirely with one of those digital still cameras that does very short movies, "Daisy" was commissioned by Alex Schubert for "WTF Too: Party Retarty". Alex was blow'd up by Tape Store (aka Chris)'s live performance at the Cat Jams Octorelease Show, and hoped that Tape Store would be able to appear in person, but since Tape Store is 15/16, and since his mom knows that doing a show at an art gallery in Kansas City means you join a gang, this prerecorded performance had to suffice. Since Tape Store is Tape Store, it's not a "performance" at all, but an original short film with original music by Tape Store. Here is the press release for WTF? TOO. WTF? TOO Curated by Lisa Kettlewell and Alex Schubert Fahrenheit Gallery 1717 W. 9th St. (816) 419-5790 wtftoo@gmail.com April 29-June 3 Reception: 6-9 p.m. Music: 7 p.m. Closing Reception: June 3, 12-6 p.m. Hours: Saturday, 12-6 p.m. and by appointment Last year, the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center hosted "WTF?," an exhibition of emerging artists. This year's "WTF? Too" expands upon the WTF-ness of "WTF?" by trying to map out the difference, if any, between faux-naïve and real naïve art. The show bridges the gap between these two super-similar sensibilities by throwing both into the same space without any mediation, leaving viewers to ask questions such as, "Which is which?" and more importantly "Which is funnier?" On the one hand, faux-naïve superstars (like Callyann Casteel, Cody Critcheloe, Jaimie Warren, and Aaron Wrinkle) plot a course for kitsch through stupid looking art from relatively smart people. On the other, actually naïve artists (like Brett Ray) seem to be trying their best with similar results. Musical performances further confuse, with a video by Cat Jams Record's 16-year-old-sensation Tape Store. Local Gravy Train, Little Indian Boy, will also make an appearance. If the previous exhibition was, as Peregine Honig (local artist and director of the Fahrenheit) claimed in Review Magazine, a "promenade of young idols" presenting "a loud, messy show of varied talents on a tiny stage," then the new one is similar. Check it out! Here is what Alex reported post-show. "Overall the show was pretty good. But no one would sit through tape store's movie. Everyone walked away after 5 minutes and someone tried to unplug the audio around the same time. So, it was awesome. xoxox, Alex"

Kitty Daisy & Lewis / We Dreamed America

This is a clip from the documentary film 'We Dreamed America' directed by Alex Walker of Brickwall Films and featuring the band Kitty Daisy & Lewis. The documentary delves deep into the dark recesses of the British Americana music scene, exploring the gritty underworld of the New British Country movement. It features an array of music from serveral artists, cultural and historical critiques from London's luminaries of musical journalism as well as a heady slice of perspective from some of Country and Americana's leading forefathers. We Dreamed America tells the story of what happens when Country music comes home. The full film premiered at the South by South West Film Festival in Austin, Texas in March 2008. Kitty Daisy & Lewis's self titled debut album is out 28th July 2008 on Sunday Best Recordings. http://www.brickwallfilms.co.uk http://www.myspace.com/kittydaisyandlewis http://www.sundaybest.net http://www.recordstore.co.uk/sundaybest
